India’s furniture market has a lot of potential and is steadily going up. We are seeing new brands sprouting from different regions all over the country. There are also a few startups and individuals who are working towards spreading the concepts of recycling and sustainability in India. Ahmedabad-based Ek Kalakaar Design Studio is one such startup that gives full importance to these eco-friendly lifestyle concepts.
Founded by Anurag Bhandari, the studio makes furniture, lighting, sculptures, and other home décor products using sustainably sourced materials. Believe it or not, they use unused wood, acrylic, glass, metal, concrete, etc. to create timeless everyday objects. Though recycling is not a popular thing in India, the brand is garnering the attention of the design fraternity from around the world.
Ek Kalakaar Design Studio has made a number of furniture and lighting products that can be availed through their website. These tables, chairs and lamps are not ordinary; rather they hold a great value as they give second life to some useless items. Imagine a small table with an asymmetrically shaped top in raw wood placed on a deformed steel bar base. It will certainly be a conversation starter.
The studio makes a number of such recycled furniture pieces; however, the storage unit made of upcycled corrugated metal sheets is one of most interesting creations. Aptly named Moody Curves Unit, it sports elegant curves and a PU polished black top.
The Moody Curves Unit is designed keeping in mind different purposes. You can place it as a standalone side table in your living room or use it as a storage unit in the office. It is available in Blue, Beige and Black shades, the brand announced on Instagram.
This storage unit cum side table doesn’t even appear to be made of recycled items at first sight. We are totally surprised at how creatively unusable corrugated metal sheets are transformed into beautiful and functional furniture units.
